James visited my studio and the quintessential laneways of Melbourne to sit for my ongoing series celebrating Australian artists who excel in their craft, called The Living Artist Series.
He generously gave me his time in between busy recording sessions, he remained the consummate professional and dedicated musician. It’s no wonder James is the star we have all known for so many years. With his beautiful custom-made trumpet, I was fortunate enough to capture some amazing studio images, as well as striking location shots of him around Melbourne. It was a true gift—one of those unforgettable moments that will stay with me for a lifetime.
James Lloyd Morrison AM (born 1962) is a world-renowned Australian jazz virtuoso and multi-instrumentalist. Best known for his trumpet playing, he also masterfully plays trombone, flugelhorn, saxophone, piano, and double bass. Notably, he composed and performed the opening music for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
